Microdermabrasion For Acne Scar Treatment

We can understand acne scar treatment better if we understand the texture of the skin and what lies underneath the skin. It is made up of millions of cells which have a protective action to our body from environmental hazards. They are also responsible for regulating our body temperature. In fact it is our skin which covers our body from any external harm to our internal organs. However, every day, thousands of these cells die or get peeled off and new cells are born to replace them. This is a continuous process and starts from the time we are born.

This continuous process of birth, death and re-birth slows down as we age. This is when our skin starts to look dull, with dark blotches or fine lines. Some times there are signs of sun damage also as the early signs of aging starts to appear. Many of us get very upset at these aging lines, wrinkles and other signs of old age. There are various techniques to re-condition the skin which promises to resurface the skin and bring back its glowing look. These techniques have gained popularity all over the world as men and women go out and get their skin treated for reviving their youth. Of course these techniques are a boon to people suffering from acne or acne scars.

One of the newer techniques for resurfacing and smoothing the skin is called microdermabrasion. This treatment is applicable for acne scar treatment also. There are essentially two phases of application when microdermabrasion is the treatment option for acne. In the first phase, the skin is cleansed properly and all blocked skin pores are emptied and cleansed using a process similar to vacuum cleaning of the skin surface, of course very mildly. There is a machine which is used as a tool for this purpose. Incidentally this process is comfortable and can be done without any anesthesia. The skin can get back a red and healthy glow after microdermabrasion acne treatment, which is perhaps caused by an increase of blood flow under the skin. The treatment obviously rejuvenates the skin as it restores the nutrients and oxygen supply which leads to great improvement.

During the second phase of microdermabrasion acne treatment, a thin jet of aluminum oxide crystals is sprayed on the skin surface. This has a gentle effect on the skin which smoothen the shell of the skin as well as removes the dead skin cells from the outer layer of the skin surface. Interestingly this treatment option, when repeated frequently, can lead to permanent smoothing of the skin and clear it of all irregularities and blotches.

Microdermabrasion has today gained tremendous popularity in the treatment of acne and acne scars as more and more medical centers are opting for this therapy. Except for the existing use of Ro-accutane, there are no known contra-indications for microdermabrasion therapy. The only point to remember is that for best results you must undergo several such treatments within a span of time. While most acne cases need about ten sessions, acute acne treatment may need more.
